Why Give?

Have you ever wondered why God tells us to give? Does He need our money? The Bible tells us in Psalm 24:1 “The earth is the Lords, and everything in it." This verse shows that God doesn’t need our money since everything is His. So why does He ask us to give? It is to teach us how to keep Him first in our lives and how to be unselfish. God loves us so much that He gave his only son. Think about that sentence for a moment. The bible teaches us that we are made in God’s image and He was the ultimate giver. He knows that it is in our DNA to be givers, that we are most happy when we are looking outward towards other people as opposed to inward towards ourselves. When we give, we take our eyes off our rights, our problems and our stuff. The happiest and most joyful people are those give and serve.

Your challenge is to participate. It is not how much time or money you give, it is that you are involved in the life-changing work your church is doing. Your involvement is paramount to our ministry together. Prayerfully consider your financial involvement in your church, and please consider taking on this challenge. What can you do now?

Giving Options

As you tithe and contribute to Hamilton Mill United Methodist Church, consider the convenient options available.

  • Weekend Services: Simply place cash or checks in offering plate during any of the worship services. Be sure to include your name and address on check or envelope in order to receive credit for tax purposes. If you would like to designate the gift, please write the designation on the memo line of the check or on the envelope.
  • By Mail: Mail your donation to 1450 Pine Road, Dacula, GA  30019. Be sure to include name and address on check or envelope so that donation credit may be provided for tax purposes. If you would like to designate the gift, please write the designation on the memo line on the check or on the envelope.
  • Online Giving: Hamilton Mill accepts checks generated via your bank’s bill payment system. If there is a designation to the gift, please indicate that in the account number section of Bill Pay. Note: The memo section on Bill Pay is for your information and does not get printed on the check and forwarded to us.

Note: HMUMC is unable to accept donation via credit card. Why?

Hamilton Mill UMC has carefully and cautiously decided not to allow gifts or payments to the church to be charged on a credit card.  Although many people use their credit cards responsibly, many also struggle in this area.  We feel that it is part of our witness to the community to stand with the people that struggle and not put them in a position of going into debt and paying interest on payments or gifts to the church.

Non-Cash Gifts

  • Stocks and Mutual Funds: You will receive a tax deduction for the fair market value of your securities at the time of donation, and you will pay no capital gains tax on the difference between your cost and the fair market value. Fill out the appropriate form, send a copy to your broker to authorize the transfer, and a copy to Hamilton Mill letting us know how you want the funds applied:
    • Gift of Stock
    • Gift of Stock Certificate
    • Gift of Mutual Funds

Call or Email Kathee Hawkins for a copy of these forms.

Other Giving Opportunities

The primary option for donations to Hamilton Mill United Methodist Church is the General Operating Fund. This fund makes possible the day-to-day ministries and services of the church. Periodically, there are opportunities to designate a donation to a specific ministry initiative. Please make sure to mark your gift with the appropriate designation.

Giving Statements

  • All donations made to Hamilton Mill United Methodist Church are held in the strictest confidence.
  • Statements of Contributions are mailed in January (for the prior calendar year). Interim statements are mailed quarterly to those donors that have pledges.
  • If you would like a statement at any time, please contact the church office at 770-271-8855.

Financial Accountability

“We want to avoid any criticism of the way we administer this liberal gift. For we are taking pains to do what is right, not only in the eyes of the Lord but also in the eyes of men.”

2 Corinthians 8:20-21 (NIV)

  • Hamilton Mill United Methodist Church is committed to honoring God’s provision by exercising wise and faithful stewardship, ethical business practices, and full accountability to ensure the financial integrity of HMUMC remains above reproach. We accomplish this through a system of internal controls and an internal budgeting and reporting process.
  • In addition, the financial statements are reviewed by ministry leaders, the Finance Committee and the Administrative board on a monthly basis.
  • Anyone may request a copy of HMUMC’s most recent financial statements. Contact us at finance@hmumc.org or 770-271-8855 to ask general questions about our financial practices.
